These delicate paper thin blooms open up in early morning and evening. The gumbo hills or badlands can be strewn with their blossoms on years when there is plenty of rainfall.
As a young mother I was given these flowers picked by my children and husband and to their dismay they had already wilted by the time I received them. I did not think any less of their small gift than I would have a dozen long stemmed roses.
